Books that changed how I operate, with the one sentence I kept. Not everything I’ve read. What survived.

  • High Output Management Andy Grove A manager’s output is the output of their organisation. Now substitute “agents” for “organisation” and reread the whole book.
  • The Mythical Man-Month Fred Brooks Adding people to a late project makes it later. The first management law that agents actually repeal, because communication overhead was the whole problem.
  • Hackers & Painters Paul Graham Making things and arguing well are the same skill at different speeds.
  • The Almanack of Naval Ravikant Eric Jorgenson Seek wealth, not money: equity, leverage, judgment. The leverage chapter reads like a prophecy now.
  • Thinking in Systems Donella Meadows The behaviour of a system is a property of the system, not the people in it. The cure for blaming individuals for structural failure.
